    My Girl Robin

I married this girl twenty-six years ago (1981). She is definitely the love of my life and the best thing that ever happened to me. Here is a picture of her at twenty-one.

There is hardly a day goes by that I don't thank the Lord for her. She is faithful and true, and despite a few personality traits, here and there, she is easy to get along with. She is diligent to care for me and our family.

We have had two children. Andy is grown and married to a wonderful gal - much like his mom! Chelsey is turning nineteen and still living at home. Both kids will tell you, they have had the greatest mom.

She homeschooled our kids - and she took this seriously. She studied, she worked and she always tried to make the lessons interesting. Big on birthdays, she would have parties and our kids could have all their friends over for a celebration. I think our kids had a happy childhood and they have a lot of memories they can look back on. They have their mother to thank for that.

I am a country boy and she is a city girl. Years ago, we lived two miles out of town in a suburb of Seattle. When you left town, you were immediately in the country. We had five acres in the middle of farms and nurseries. We had a driveway that was a quarter mile long and we had a creek through the property. We were both happy with this: I was in the country, and she was less than five minutes out of town!

Then we moved to Idaho - and you would think we would naturally live in the country - because that is what Idaho is. Isn't it? Not quite. We have been in the suburbs ever since. My wife and kids love that. I guess I can live with it.

Here is a picture we snapped last Labor Day (2006) while sipping Starbucks teas together. I can't say her age but she is a forty-something and you can see she has not lost her good looks!

A few months after the event of this photo, I fell off a roof (not my first time) and shattered my pelvis. The injury was so bad, there were only three doctors in the Pacific Northwest that could put me back together again. This is described in another story [?art_id=65].

Robin was with me every day in the hospital. She took care of all the little things the nurses and aides did not have time to do and she was good company to me. When I was released to home, she faithfully attended me, dressing me and helping with my exercises.

Lately, I've been getting stronger and wanting to get out on my own. This is breaking her heart as she has grown accustomed to the two of us being together 24/7. I took a month of talking and preparing her before she allowed me to venture out on my four-wheeler (ATV). And when I took my first trip, she cried.

I don't know what this girl sees in me. I was a crusty old guy when I was young and I am worse now. So there is nothing I can ascribe in myself that would attract a girl like her. I am a truly blessed man and I thank God for her.

    Random Humor: Another Blonde Joke

Last year a blonde replaced all the windows in her house with that expensive white vinyl, double-pane, Low-E energy efficient kind.

This week, she got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that the work had been completed a whole year ago and she hadn't paid for them.

"Hellloooo, just because I'm blonde doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid." she told him and she reminded him just what his fast talking sales guy had told her last year, namely, that in ONE YEAR these windows would pay for themselves!

    "Helllooooo? It's been a year!"

There was only silence at the other end of the line.
